Lake Son-Kel
Nestled in the vast mountain basin of the Inner Tien Shan, northwest of the city of Naryn, Lake Sonkel stretches 57 kilometers in length and 29 kilometers in width. This stunning lake, positioned at an altitude of 3,016 meters above sea level, encompasses an area of around 270 square kilometers, with depths reaching 13-14 meters in certain locations. Its formation is attributed to the tectonic activity of the Tien Shan mountain system, and the lake is filled with fresh, cold water.

Pass "33 Parrots"
Four motorable mountain passes lead to Lake Sonkel. Traveling from Almaty, we ascend to the lake valley via the Kalmak-Ashuu pass (“Ashuu” in Kyrgyz translates to “pass,” akin to the Kazakh “Asuy”). After circumnavigating Sonkel along its eastern and southern shores, we proceed to the picturesque Moldo-Ashuu pass (located on the southern shore). Following the principle of not retracing our steps, we descend from Lake Sonkel through the Terskey-Torpok pass (also known as “33 Parrots”) the next day. In addition to these motorable routes, there are numerous pedestrian passes (including Tuz-Ashuu, Chil-Bel, and Uzbek) leading to the lake.
Silent Bay
The sand spit known as “Silent Bay” is one of the most beautiful spots along the southern coast of Issyk-Kul. This bay heats the water, creating a comfortable swimming environment. The beach is sandy, although rocky in some areas, and the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul is renowned for its wild beaches and clean waters. Notably, the water here warms more than on the northern coast, boasting one of the highest transparency levels on the south shore. Silent Bay frequently hosts competitions and training camps for divers, rowers, and other athletes, making it a favorite destination for motor tourists visiting Kyrgyzstan.

Skazka Canyon
Located just 10 kilometers from Silent Bay, Skazka Canyon is initially unremarkable from the roadside. However, after traversing a kilometer, the landscape transforms into a striking array of colorful soils and cliffs. Following a visit to the Kazherty Waterfall at the base of the “33 Parrots” pass, we will head to Skazka Canyon. Upon arrival, we will ascend to a panoramic viewpoint for photos and enjoy a short trek within the canyon.
